International Kissing Day: Don’t let bad breath ruin that perfect moment!

Today is International Kissing Day, but before you go kissing your partner make sure your dental hygiene is up to par!
There is nothing like interrupting that perfect moment when you get a whiff of an unpleasant odor escaping from the mouth.

Bad breath (also known as halitosis) can be related to a number of different symptoms occurring in your body.
It is uncomfortable to inform anyone that they have bad breath, especially if you are about to kiss.
SO, it is up to you to manage your oral health to avoid the embarrassing bad breath moment.

What can cause bad breath (halitosis):

  • Poor Dental Hygiene & Dry Mouth
  • Dental & health problems
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Smoking

5 Ways to manage bad breath:

1. Take care of your dental hygiene:

Brush twice a day and floss daily.  If there is something stuck in your teeth after you eat when in doubt, floss it out!
Do not let it sit in your teeth all day.

2. Drink lots of water!

Dry mouth or white coating on your tongue can be caused by a couple of things, such as medication or dehydration.
Drinking water will help you stay hydrated and keep your mouth moist. Brushing off the white coating in your mouth is also helpful.
You can purchase a tongue scraper at your next dental appointment.

3. Keeping up with regular dental cleanings and checkups is key to a successful healthy mouth

We take same day appointments; get a good cleaning before going on your date! Your dentists and hygienists are trained to spot any dental problems that may be the cause for your bad breath. Gum disease, oral infections or tooth decay are easier to treat the earlier it is detected.

4. Change your diet:

The foods you eat can have an effect on your dental health.
If you are eating surgery foods, it can rot your teeth and cause cavities which will result in bad breath.

5. Quit Smoking:

Smoking is bad for your health for many reasons. It also damages nerves in your nose and receptors on your tongue.
It reduces your sense of smell and sense of taste. You will not even be able to notice that you have bad breath, but everyone else will!

If you suffer from bad breath, see your dentist immediately. We understand that it can be uncomfortable or embarrassing to ask questions.
Do not feel ashamed, we are here to help!

Before kissing your partner, remember to check your breath!
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL KISSING DAY!
